Auricular therapy is a technique from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) at least 23 centuries old. It aims to prevent or heal disease by maintaining or restoring balance in the body by the stimulation of specific points on the ear.
These points are believed to correspond to different organs, systems, and functions within the body.
By stimulating these points, we can influence the flow of energy (or Qi) in the body and address various health concerns.
Ear Seeding
Ear Seeding is a fascinating practice rooted in ancient traditions and holistic healing. The origins of ear seeding can be traced back to traditional TCM, the earliest records date back to The Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Internal Medicine, written around 100 BCE.

Ear seeding gained further prominence in the 1950s when Dr Paul Nogier, a French physician, conducted extensive research on auriculotherapy. He observed that certain points on the ear corresponded to specific parts of the body. His work was inspired by Chinese medicine, yet he developed a more systematic approach.
His findings were published in 1957 and his work was instrumental in popularising auriculotherapy in the West.
Dr. Nogier’s research provided a scientific basis for the practice, validating the ancient Chinese observations with modern techniques.
Ear seeding is non-invasive way of applying pressure to the ear, used for a variety of purposes. In ancient China, it was primarily employed to treat pain and various internal disorders.
Practitioners would apply small seeds or beads to specific points on the ear, stimulating these points to promote healing and balance within the body. Seeds are not applied in places that are contraindicated for you.
The seeds, traditionally from the Vaccaria plant, are chosen for their size and shape, making them ideal for applying gentle pressure to the ear’s acupoints.
What you should expect
- Eva will place seeds on the surface of the ear
- You should relax for 24 hours with no heavy exercise, after 24 hours you may return to normal activity
- After 3 days the seeds must be removed
- Eva will provide more information at the Clinic.
Ear acupuncture
This therapeutic technique also uses specific points of the auricular pavilion (outer ear) and the ear itself to stimulate them in order to generate an effect in the body to allow it to promote and balance some bodily functions. Auricular acupuncture is probably the most developed and best documented, scientifically, of all the Microsystems of acupuncture and is the most practical and widely used.

An acupuncturist inserts very thin steel needles into your skin to rebalance your body’s energy, or qi, and prompt your body to release natural chemicals to fight the illness or symptoms.
Auricular Acupuncture is used in many NHS GP practices, as well as in most pain clinics and hospices in the UK.
Ear acupuncture is as effective as body acupuncture with some advantages.
